How To Care For Your Cycology Garments

In order to maintain a long life for your Cycology garments, each item should be handled according to our care and washing instructions. Please follow these care tips to make sure that they continue to perform at their best.

General Care

Garments ideally should be washed after each ride, otherwise hang your items to ventilate. This will prevent bacteria and odours from building up and reduce the chances of damaging the material.

Always check the care label of your garment to ensure you are following the recommended procedures such as the maximum heat to wash the product at and whether it is suited to machine or hand wash.

Before washing, check that all pockets are empty, close all zips and Velcro fastenings and turn all garments inside out.

The Basics: Cold Wash, Air Dry.

  • Use a gentle, mild, wool wash. Do not use harsh detergents, soakers, fabrics softeners, or bleach. Using these harsh chemicals will destroy wicking treatments, membranes, water repellent treatments, anti-bacterial properties, and will destroy the fibres of the technical fabric.

  • Line dry in the shade. The active fabrics are moisture wicking, which means that they dry quickly. Keep your garments in the shade; the sun will fade your colours. Do not use a dryer as the heat can melt the fibres.

  • Line dry bibs and knicks in the shade, inside out (chamois-side facing out).

  • Do not store your cycling gear while still wet or damp.

  • Keep those fluffy towels away from your Cycology gear in the wash. Lint and cotton love to cling to technical fabrics, so keep them separated.

If your garment is machine washable:

  • Wash your kit inside out in a wash bag on a gentle cold machine wash using mild detergent with similar colours (to protect the print and finish).

For hand washing garments:

  • Wash separately in cold water with a mild detergent and rinse with clean cold water.

  • If your garments are a little hard on the nose, hand wash with a small amount of white wine vinegar mixed with warm water. This will remove odour-causing bacteria. Rinse thoroughly and air dry in the shade.

Taking Care of Bright Colours.

  • Wash bright colours in cold water by hand or with similar colours in a short machine wash.

  • When wet, keep bright coloured gear away from other fabrics.

Gloves

Turn your gloves inside out to protect the print. Wash your gloves by hand, or on a cold gentle machine wash ensuring the Velcro is closed. Go easy on the spin cycle, high RPM’s put a lot of stress of your gloves. Hang or lay flat to air dry.

Storage

Ensure your cycling gear is completely dry before storing it. Store products in a dry and well-ventilated wardrobe or cupboard, away from direct sunlight.
